harp seal
The harp seal and also known as the saddleback seal, has a cute face with a silver-gray body, and its eyes are full black. It has black harp or wishbone shaped markings on the back. The pups are born with a yellowish colour coat, but after three days the coat turns white and stays white for about 12 days. They grow up to be five to six feet long and weigh 300 to 400 pounds. The harp seal eats a wide variety of fish, and other sea creatures, and when food is scarce it has a thick coat of blubber that insulates its body and provides energy. Its flippers are used for heat exchangers , warming or cooling the blood when needed, on ice the seal can press its foreflippers to its body and its hindflippers together to reduce heat loss. The harp seal spends most of their time in water and a little time on land, they can be very noisy. They will form large groups where they will spend a lot of time. The harp seal can live up to 30 years in the wild and the mother will abandon her pups after
Weddell seal
The weddell seal can grow up to 10 feet long and weigh up to 1,000 pounds. The females are usually more larger than the males. They are a blueish gray and have long whiskers with cute noises. Most of the weddell seals live in McMurdo Sound which is 800 miles away from the South Pole. They live in big groups and spend most of their time in the water, they don't have to come up for air they will find cracks in the ice and get air through that. They tend to relax during the day even when underwater, then hunt for food at night. They have sharp teeth but swallow their food whole. The weddell seal pups are born in either September or October, and the mothers feeds them milk so they can gain weight faster so its easier to grow. They are 60 pounds when born and after six weeks the mother stops nursing and hey are about 200 pounds. Their are 800,000 weddell seal's out there right now, and will live 12 to 15 years in the wild. Some might even live up to 20 years but that is mostly the females.
leopard seal
The leopard seal is a silver-gray colour and is about eight to ten feet long. They can weigh up to 1,000 pounds, and can live up to 26 years. Their front flippers are long and have claws at the end. They use these flippers and hind flippers to swim. Their teeth are about 1 inch long and are very sharp. The leopard seal's are found in the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic waters. They mainly eat smaller seals, penguins, other birds, fish, squids, and krill. They have one up and it is born around January and February. The predators of the leopard seal is the killer whale. There are around 220,000 - 440,000 leopards seals in the wild. They are the largest of the original Antarctic seals. The leopard seal is one of the most fastest seals there is and is the only seal who eats other seals. The leopard seal does not interact with other seals until breeding season comes.
